Financial Services Marketing or "Marketing Applied to the Financial Sector" introduces students to specialized marketing principles, strategies, and practices essential for success in banking, insurance, investment, and other financial services industries. The course addresses the challenges of marketing intangible financial products and services in a highly regulated, trust-dependent environment.

The course prepares students to marketing roles in financial institutions through a dual approach: building theoretical knowledge of financial services marketing concepts (lectures), while developing practical application skills through case studies and projects. Students will explore critical themes including customer relationship management, digital marketing in finance, regulatory compliance, brand positioning, customer acquisition and retention, and marketing analytics in financial contexts.

The course is designed to enhance strategic thinking and decision-making capabilities applied to financial marketing challenges. Students will develop essential marketing competencies through real-world case studies, digital marketing simulations, and collaborative projects that bridge theoretical frameworks with contemporary financial sector challenges including fintech disruption, changing customer expectations, and digital transformation.

Services are consumed everyday by itself or as part of a physical product. They range from general services use frequently e.g. barber, supermarket, retail banking, medical services to infrequent specialised services e.g. legal advice, funeral, education. Professional services are also purchased regularly e.g. accounting, financial services, architects, construction etc.

The intangible and perishable nature of services poses unique challenges to the providers and requires contrasting approaches to the marketing of these services. In this module, we also examine the significant roles played by both the customers and the front line service providers in offering service quality and excellence.

Marketing is the primary engine for organizational growth and value creation. Beyond mere promotion, marketing serves as the strategic interface between an organization and its environment, identifying unmet needs and orchestrating the delivery of superior value to the market.

This module provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental concepts, strategic theories, and practical applications of marketing within an organization. Students will examine the strategic nature and role of marketing, alongside the critical functions of marketing planning, control, and research. The curriculum explores the dynamic marketing environment, consumer behavior, and the technical frameworks of market segmentation and positioning.

Global/international marketing synchronizes resources to capture worldwide opportunities through "Glocalization"—balancing standardized efficiency with local adaptation. Guided by the EPRG Framework, firms navigate the "global village" to access international potential, ensuring survival against foreign rivals, driving economies of scale, and optimizing resource utilization.

While international marketing shares core principles with domestic marketing, it introduces additional complexities. Evaluating global market opportunities relative to added costs requires sophisticated analysis. Cultural acceptability varies significantly across borders, and firms face non-obvious financial and entry barriers. Driven by the rapid expansion of electronic communications, the global village continues to expand.
